I booked a more expensive room in this hotel as although it was described as 4 star I wanted to ensure we got a good room. The first room I was given was in an annex and was very disappointing with wallpaper being patched in several places and even starting to peel at the joints. When I complained I was shown 2 other rooms both of which were in the annex and if these were examples of the hotels more expensive rooms I would hate to see a basic room. I was then advised that if I kept the original room for the first night I would get a better room next day. Indeed I was offered another room the next day which was bigger and slighty better and although there was an unpleasant smell on the landing outside the room, rather than spend my short holiday complaining about rooms I reluctantly accepted. However during the third night in this room we were awoken by an alarm which sounded like a fire alarm but when I phoned reception we were told to ignore it.This happened on 3 occasions that night which meant our nights sleep was ruined. When we again complained next moring we were assured it would be fixed but when we arrived back that evening the same alarm ( which I then traced to the lift which stopped outside our room) was still going off intermittently. Again the staff assured us it would be fixed but after several more faults and complaints they admitted it would not be fixed until the following day by which time we would have finished our holiday!!. I refused to accept this prospect of another sleepless night and the staff then offered to resolve the problem by turning the lift off but as we were on the fifth floor this wasnt much of a solution. Eventually we were offered another room and for the first time in the main hotel rather than the annex. This room, whilst small, was much better and was the type of room I would have expected from the outset especially as I had booked the dearest room available on the website. Apart from this, the hotel is in an excellent location in the old town and most of the staff are very friendly. But at best I would describe the rooms I was given and the standard of response to our legitimate concerns as very poor. I could not therefore recommend this hotel to any of my friends.

Generally a pleasant experience. Very small room for a deluxe double, very little actually deluxe about it.
Clean, very well located, staff were great but its a good tourist-quality hotel.......nothing more.
Very expensive but the same applies to all hotels in the old city.
I would stay there again.

My two week stay at The Byzatium Hotel in Istanbul was enjoyable. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful which for me as a single guest was welcoming. The hotel is centrally located near the famous Blue Mosque and many other wonderful attractions. If I were to have any complaints it would be that I was not able to make a cup of coffee at will in my own room. I leave with pleasant memories.

The hotel is in a great location for all of the major sites to see. The staff I found to be not very personable. Our room was OK. I say that because the two rooms on either side of ours were occupied by a family with toddlers. The toddlers were allowed to roam the halls at late hours crying and ringing the door bells to the rooms. We complained to the front desk and their response was "what do you want me to do?" Not the right question to ask a complaining guest. I think if we would have had a better room the stay would have been better.

We thought that the Byzantium Hotel was excellent, staff helpful, extremely clean and included breakfast 1st class. The only problem we had which we have mentioned to the hotel and had their reply on it, was that the room was too hot and stuffy. The hotel was in a perfect position for visiting all the attractions and restaurants with a 1st class travel system within easy reach. We would recommend this hotel.

The room has good supplies such as slippers, cotton buds, 2 way lamp switches. Though there is some noise from the next room, it is very comfortable and affordable. I will recommend your hotel to others.

Really pleasant stay at Byzantium Hotel and Suites. The staff are really friendly and helpful and whilst the room was not the biggest, the location was superb and the street was great with lots of nice restaurants and bars.
Will stay there again on my next visit to Istanbul

Rooms are way too small and no place to put your suitcase, so you end up falling over your stuff all the time. Very irritating.
Rest of the hotel were OK, food, service etc. Just not sure if this is value for money if they put you up in a letterbox.

my stay at the hotel was very unforuante and did not enjoy my stay at this hotel at all. I booked a suprior double bed with sea view. Although my booking was confirmed, when I checked in I was given a BASIC TRIPLE room (Room 208) wihout telling me any thing. When I complained to the receptionist, he made an arrangement to transfer me to villa Pasha hotel(room 43)the following day. I was given a room with sea view but there was problem with the water. Also the hotel has no lift and no lobby. I accepted the transfer but after two days the receptionist at Villa Pasha informed me that I have to transfer AGAIN. which was really unacceptable. I went to the byzantium hotel reception and was given another room there (with no sea view ). the receptioned offered me some discout on the price but actually it was not a discout. If I had stayed in a triple room or a doule without a sea view I would have paid less any way. This stay was really unconfortable and I feel like I was cheated on. I will NEVER book again at this hotel .

The only thing to improve is to provide cartoon ENGLISH cartoon channel. My 8-yr old son missed this very much as he loves to watch cartoon in the evening.

My stay in the hotel was very nice I liked the hotel very much. Even I advised my other members of my family to come to the hotel and they did. One thing is that they did not provide a free transport from and to the airport as it was mentioned in the web site of the hotel and the room service on the first day was not very good but later on they were very good and they were so friendly and helpful. For me if I come to Istanbul I will come to Byzantium hotel

The hotel is ideally situated for touring Istanbul and is in close proximity to all the major tourist sites and in the heart of a number of excellent restaurants. The rooms are clean and comfortable and well equiped. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast buffet is extensive and enjoyable. The spa also has very good facilities and helpful staff.

William Dillard famously said "there are 3 things important about real estate; location, location, location" well this hotel was for me in the perfect location. The street outside was lively with restaurants and bars and within 5 minutes you can walk to St Sophia, Topkapi or the Blue Mosque. There is a roof restaurant with stunning views of these sites and in addition the Bosphorus. Staff were helpful, the rooms clean and there was a well appointed Turkish bath/sauna in the basement. I would recommend this hotel.

We were told that we would be picked up from the airport. Someone was waiting from the hotel but she wasn't waiting for us! She sorted the problem out and we were transferred to the hotel after about half an hour's wait.
The hotel was very good. The staff friendly. The rooms extremely clean and have everything you need. The breakfast was very good and plenty of it. But best of all is the view from the roof overlooking the Bosforus and Asia on one side and the Blue Mosque and Santa Sofia on the other - amazing! We didn't have a massge but the spa area looked good.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone. It's very central and it's near to good restaurants too.

The breakfast buffet was adequate and good value. My only reservation was the thickness of the walls - not very well soundproofed.

The hotel was overall nice. However, be prepared for a small room, although mine had a gorgeous view so it compensated for the lack of space. Probably the worst thing of the stay is their breakfast - same options every day and those (cold cuts, cereals and weak Nescafe coffee) were not that great to begin with. I think it was slightly overpriced for what it had to offer, but generally good. I also believe for that price, especially off-season, they might have offered a free ride BOTH to and from the airport.

The Byzantium is the perfect boutique hotel! The rooms compact and immaculate with incredible views. The terrace provides an ideal panorama of the Bosphorous and Sultanahmet.
The staff are friendly and courteous. They are always on available and will go out of their way to help.
The location of the Byzantium could not be more ideal with a short but picturesque walk to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia and Topkapi Palace.
My stay? Perfect

I spent 3 days between 3rd and 7th of December in Byzantium Hotel and I can say very clean hotel, gentle personnel great location close to the main monuments the only remark I can rise is lack of sound insulation between each room, that could be improved to give more privacy to guests
Anyway my opinion still stay positive, I will use stay at this hotel again if got vthe occasion

The staff at the hotel was very polite and helpfull. Melisa was most knowledgeable about activities that we inquired about. She gave very good instructions and reccomendations each day. The breakfast was always on time and fresh each day, with a good selection of choices. The location was excellent and convenient to the old town. Also good location to metro and train. The airport pickup was great and also easy to arrange with return trip. Our room was small but comfortable. It was kept very clean and nice during out stay. I would highly reccommend this hotel and will stay upon our return to Istanbul.

Great location. Very clean. Charming, helpful staff especially Melissa, the Customer Liaison. Good buffet breakfast. Complementary afternoon tea/coffee and cake was a nice touch. Compact spa in the basement is worth a visit. Note: we had reserved a superior double room with seaview for all 4 nights. However, it was not available on our first night and we therefore had to move rooms on our second day. The standard double room was tiny. The superior room was as expected. We were given a small discount for the inconvenience. Also, the internal walls are rather thin - suggest taking ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. We would return to this lovely hotel.

positives;- Excellent location with great views from the rooftop terrace, just a short walk to many of the very best sights in Istanbul. The staff were better than good - they were excellent. Melissa, their tourism advisor, was really helpful. Downside:- very small room without even enough space for a chair and a tiny 'bathroom' with no bath, just a shower.

The Byzantium Hotel was a pleasant surprise in all aspects. Wanting to stay in the heart of Sultanenmet I selected the hotel off the internet using istanbulhotels.com. Having been disappointed on previouss web based bookings were wide angle lenses and night shots make even the most dreary hotel look posh. The Byzantium did not dissapoint but exceeded my expectations. The views of the bosphorous , blue mosque, etc from the hotel are astounding. The location is spot on for a city vacation. The cherry on the cake was the staff. Very professional and friendly.
To all the staff at the hotels, keep up the good work.

We stayed at the Byzantium Hotel, Istanbul for 4 nights in mid September 09.We found everything first rate - the staff could not have been more helpful or courteous; the rooms were spotless with linen and towels changed daily; the Turkish bath and massage centre in the basement was excellent; and, of course, being in the centre of Sultanahmet it was the best possible location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are planning our next trip there.

We stayed for 4 days(27-31 Aug 2009) and really enjoyed the magnificent view over Marmara sea (room on the 4th floor at the back), the perfect location of the Hotel in the heart of the Old City, the helpful and kind hotel stuff (special thanks to Melisa at the reception) and the more than adequate breakfast. We went to Insambul by our car with my wife and my 6 year-old son and we parked at the "Otopark" one block away, with the cost payed by the Hotel (60 TL) and we were pleased with the easy access to Kennedy Kadesi and from there to all the main roads around Bosporus. Overall it was a pefect choise of Hotel and location in a reasonable price. The only thing that could be better is that we would have prefered to have breakfast up on the terace with the manificent view over Marmara sea, Agyia Sofia and Blue Mosque, instead of the basement, since the weather was perfect.

I was travelling on my own and found the hotel to be in a great location for the sights. It is on a street with other hotels and cafes and small supermarkets so there are places to sit if you don't want to go far. The hotel is clean and the staff go out of their way to be helpful. It was quiet outside at night when I visited - September. The only negative point was that the only way to use the steam room was to buy a massage package. I would definitely stay there again.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Byzantium. We got 2 rooms, one double for our two teenage boys and one with a king size bed for us. The location is perfect, close to key sights in Sultanahmet, and the rooms and amenities were excellent. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and modern and the water pressure in the showers was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had nothing to complain about during our stay. It was warm during our stay but the air conditioning worked great and despite being on a busy "tourist" street, the rooms were quiet at night. Highly recommended.
